RNC Investigating Jewelry Store Frauds
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are investigation received two fraud complaints from jewelry stores in the St. John's area.
Since August 8 the RNC have received two calls that involve the use of a prepaid credit card.
In both cases a man had entered jewelry stores and stated that he is from out of province.
The man then purchases an item of jewelry and pays for it using a prepaid credit card. The stores are notified days later that the transaction was fraudulent.
The amount of these frauds is approximately $20 000.
Police believe that the incidents are related and that the man may attempt to commit further fraudulent transactions.
