RNC Charge Inmate at HMP with Attempted Murder

The RNC have laid charges against a 25 year old male inmate of Her Majesty’s Penitentiary with Attempted Murder.

The charges stem from an assault on Trent Butt that occurred at HMP on June 8, 2017.

Butt is in jail on charges of killing his five-year-old daughter, Quinn, in April 2016 and then setting his Carbonear home on fire.

On June 8, 2017, the RNC received a complaint regarding an assault with a weapon that had occurred at HMP toward an inmate by another inmate.

The alleged assault occurred during recreation time.

The victim was seen and treated by medical staff at HMP and did not sustain life threatening injuries.

The man who was charged in connection with this assault will be appearing at Provincial Court tomorrow morning in St. John’s.
