RNC Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision #nltraffic

The RNC Accident Investigation Section is investigating a serious single motor vehicle collision that occurred on Wednesday morning. On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 just before noon, officers with RNC Patrol Services Division, Accident Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services along with Paramedics from Eastern Health and Firefighters from St. John’s Reginal Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision on Blackhead Road in St. John’s. The vehicle involved was a 2008 White Chevrolet Corvette and was travelling north on Blackhead Rd (just before Shea Heights travelling from the direction of Cape Spear) before leaving the roadway. The male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and both the driver and the passenger sustained serious injuries. The RNC regrets to inform that the 27 year old male passenger (of St. John’s) involved in this serious motor vehicle collision passed away this morning in hospital from injuries sustained during the collision. The 22 year old male driver remains in hospital with serious injuries. The cause of this collision is under investigation and RNC Accident Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the vehicle driving just prior to the collision or the collision itself to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
