RNC Corner Brook Region Warn Businesses of “Quick Change” Scam

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook is warning businesses of a “Quick Change” scam.

A “Quick Change” scam involves a scammer presenting a large denomination bill to a cashier and asking for change. The scammer then changes their mind, and asks for a different denomination, attempting to confuse the cashier. This often results in the cashier giving the scammer too much money.

The business community is asked to report any activity which is out of the ordinary and which may be suspicious. As well, business owners are reminded to remain extra vigilant and to ensure that any video surveillance systems are in good working order.

Anyone with information in relation to this type of incident is asked to contact the RNC at 637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can also provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
