Minister Work as Correctional Officer #nlpoli

Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General will help to promote safety at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary today by joining corrections staff on the front line to experience the work correctional officers do.

Parsons will start by unlocking cells and assisting with the serving of the breakfast meal to inmates. The minister will then join correctional officers as they transfer and admit an inmate at the St. John’s City Lockup.

The media are invited to join Minister Parsons. This has sparked controversy. MHA for St. John's Centre, Gerry Rogers said, "This is about people's lives. It's hard enough why make it photo op or media circus."

Corrections Week is May 7-13.
