CFSEU-NL Make Drug Trafficking Arrest in St. John’s

On Friday, April 28, 2017 at approximately 11:00 pm, members of the CFSEU-NL conducted a traffic stop in the east end of St. John’s resulting in the arrest of two men for trafficking in a controlled substance. Subsequent to that stop, officers seized a quantity of cocaine, Canadian currency and impounded the vehicle.

On Saturday, April 29, 2017, CFSEU-NL officers obtained search warrants for the impounded vehicle and a residence on Beauford Place in relation to the traffic stop. Officers seized an additional quantity of cocaine and other items often used in the trafficking of illicit drugs during the search.

In light of recent information concerning the potential officer safety of coming into contact with certain opioids, the searches were conducted by officers wearing personal protective equipment as a precaution and were assisted by St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health Paramedics.

The two men from St. John’s, ages 33 and 40, were held for court and remain in custody at this time. One of the men (the 40 year old) was on parole at the time of the arrest and his parole has since been revoked. The matter remains under investigation.
