Protesters Set Fire to Fishing Gear at DFO in Port au Choix


Tensions are high in Port au Choix today as protesters set fire to their gear on parking lot of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in Port au Choix.

About 100 harvesters are attending the protest from all over the Great Northern Peninsula.

In total there were 10 trucks full of fishing gear and it was all set on fire. Everything from crab pots and lobster pots to drag nets were set ablaze.

RCMP officers are also standing by monitoring the protest. The fire department was also there at one point to control the fire, which is still burning.
