Chronicle Herald buys all Atlantic Canadian TC papers

In a move that has shocked many in the newspaper industry, the parent company of The Chronicle Herald has purchased all 28 publications and it will impact 650 Transcontinental employees.

Unionized journalists have been on strike for more than a year at The Chronicle Herald, which is headquartered in Halifax.

In this province the following newspapers have been sold:

  • The Advertiser in Grand Falls-Windsor

  • The Aurora in Labrador

  • The Beacon in Gander

  • The Compass in Carbonear

  • The Gulf News in Port aux Basques

  • The Labradorian in Labrador

  • The Northern Pen in St. Anthony

  • The Nor'wester in Springdale

  • The Packet in Clarenville

  • The Pilot in Lewisporte

  • The Southern Gazette in Marystown

  • The Telegram in St. John's

  • The Western Star in Corner Brook
