Flooding Concern Today From Heavy Rain #nlwx

An area of low pressure will make its presence known across the Province today.

The heaviest area of rain will be along the South Coast where up to 70 mm is possible, mainly in the Ramea area. For the Port-aux-Basques area, up to 60 mm is possible. The Burin Peninsula may get up to 50 mm and the West Coast could get 35 mm.

Wind will also be strong with gusts up to 140 km/h in the Wreckhouse area and gusts up to 100 km/h along the West Coast.

Strong southerly winds, combined with warm temperatures, and heavy rain, will cause significant snow melt. This could lead to flooding. Hydroplaning will be a concern. The warm air flowing over the cold snow will also cause fog.

In western Labrador 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected by Saturday morning.
