Spring Storm Pounds Newfoundland #nlwx


Many schools are closed again today across Newfoundland as an area of low pressure pushes across the Island.

Rain has already begun on the Avalon. Rain and fog is expected today with rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 mm expected. Rain will continue through the night on Tuesday with another 2 to 4 mm.

Along the south coast, significant rainfall amounts of 20 to 25 mm can be expected tonight through Tuesday night. Rain will change to freezing rain then change to snow mixed with ice pellets overnight.

Central will see a transition to rain and fog also. Generally 10 to 15 mm is expected Tuesday and Tuesday night. On Tuesday night rain will change to snow with 2 to 4 cm expected. There is also a risk of freezing rain.

The west coast and Northern Peninsula will see freezing rain this morning and from there, the freezing rain will transition to snow. Some parts of the west coast could end up seeing 20 cm snow.
