Batten Down the Hatches NL #nlwx

An area of low pressure will be positioned just south of Newfoundland tonight before advancing northward.

The centre of the low will pass just west of the Avalon Peninsula on Saturday.

There are blizzard warnings, wind warnings, winter storm watches, and special weather statements in effect for most of the province.

Precipitation begins around 3 am on the south coast.

Right now, it appears most of Southern, Central and Western Newfoundland will see snow. The heaviest snow is expected over central and parts of southern Newfoundland.

On the Avalon, snow will likely change to ice pellets then to freezing rain and eventually to rain.

Strong winds will give whiteout conditions across the Province.

We may also see higher than normal water levels along the coast.

Conditions will begin to turn the corner as the low pushes offshore on Saturday night. However, strong winds will continue through Sunday with some onshore snow.
