The Minister of Health and Community Services, John Haggie, will launch the new safe prescribing course developed for health care professionals in Newfoundland and Labrador on Monday, February 27.
Haggie will be joined by Dr. Linda Inkpen, Registrar, Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physicians and Surgeons; Dr. Margaret Steele, Dean of Medicine, Memorial University; and Dr. Vernon Curran, Associate Dean of Educational Development, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University.
The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre, St. John’s, in the Faculty of Medicine building, room 5M101. The building can be accessed on the east side of Clinch Crescent.
The safe prescribing course focuses on safe and appropriate prescribing practices for opioids, stimulants and benzodiazepines. Its implementation is part of the provincial Opioid Action Plan which aims to arm health care providers and communities with the tools and information needed to respond to the growing epidemic of opioid use in Canada.
