NAIA announces new board of directors for 2026–27

The Newfoundland and Labrador Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) has elected its board of directors for 2026–27 during its annual general meeting held as part of last week’s Cold Harvest Conference.

Stephanie Synard McInnis of Cermaq Canada was elected president, while Ben Normand of Skretting Canada was elected vice-president.

Cathy Follett of AMAR Canada will continue as treasurer and Laura Halfyard of Connaigre Fish Farms Inc. will continue as secretary. Past president Sheldon George of Ocean Trout Canada will remain on the board as a director.

The board represents several areas of the province’s aquaculture sector, including finfish, shellfish, feed, research and processing.

The 2026–27 board also includes Aaron Bennett of Mowi Canada East, Terry Mills of Norlantic Processors Inc., Juan Roberts of Badger Bay Mussel Farms, Jennifer Wiper of Cooke Aquaculture, Jonathan Gagne of Enterprise Shippagan Ltd. and Danny Boyce of Memorial University.

Synard McInnis says the association will focus on supporting its members, public understanding of aquaculture and opportunities for sustainable expansion.

“Our sector continues to grow through responsible, science-based development, and NAIA will remain focused on supporting our members, strengthening public understanding, and advancing opportunities for sustainable expansion.”

George, who previously served as president, says he looks forward to supporting the new leadership.

NAIA Executive Director Bradley George says the board brings experience from across the aquaculture sector and will guide the association’s work on responsible growth, regulatory engagement and public understanding.
