An area of low pressure will pass just south of Newfoundland today bringing heavy snow and strong wind.
There is a power watch in effect for customers on the Avalon Peninsula. This means that electricity usage is being closely monitored.
Marine Atlantic Ferries wont be moving this morning. The Port aux Basques to North Sydney crossing scheduled for 11:45 am is now scheduled to depart at 11:45 pm this evening. Also the run from North Sydney to Port aux Basques scheduled for today at 12:30 pm is now scheduled to depart this evening at 11:45 pm.
Snowfall amounts could exceed 40 centimetres on the Avalon.

St. John's: 30 to 50 cm
Marystown: 15 to 20 cm
Gander: 15 to 20 cm
Corner Brook: 2 to 4 cm
St. Anthony: 2 to 4 cm
Strong winds across the Avalon and south coast will cause reduced visibility and whiteout conditions at times.
The same low dropped over 70 cm on parts of New Brunswick, closed most schools in the Maritimes, cut power to several customers, and caused some roads to become impassable.
Snow will continue in some areas until Wednesday Night.
