17-year-old charged in connection with fatal collision


The RNC has charged a 17-year-old male from Torbay with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and operating a motor vehicle with a low blood drug concentration in relation to a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in July of 2021.


The two-vehicle collision occurred on Main Road in Pouch Cove.


On arrival, officers located two vehicles involved in the collision just north of Vale Drive, a black sedan and a white SUV.


A 16-year-old male occupant of the black sedan succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another male occupant of the sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Health Science Centre for medical attention. A third male occupant of the sedan was transported to the Health Science Centre and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. There were minor injuries reported from occupants of the white SUV.


The accused was also issued tickets in relation to operating a vehicle without an insurance policy, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without an appropriate accompanying driver, and operating with passengers in the vehicle.


The youth was released from custody to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
