14 year old stopped in stolen taxi in Clarenville

A 14-year-old was arrested on Sunday after being found driving a stolen taxi in Clarenville.

Officers on patrol in Clarenville saw a taxi cab operating in a dangerous manner on Manitoba Drive. Officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered the youth operating the vehicle was under a court ordered driving prohibition and was arrested for dangerous operation.

The cab was confirmed by the RNC as being stolen from St. John’s around midnight.

Police also determined that the youth also stole gas in Goobies and had struck a parked vehicle in Clarenville and failed to stop at the collision.

The youth is charged by the RCMP with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop at the scene of a collision, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00, theft under $5000.00, breaches of various court orders and a probation order.

The youth is also charged with a number of criminal offences by the RNC in St. John’s.

The youth was transported to the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre where he will be held until his next court appearance, set for December 20.
