WorkplaceNL says workplace injuries in Newfoundland and Labrador remained at historically low levels in 2025, while the province’s workers’ compensation system continued to maintain a fully funded Injury Fund.
The organization released its 2025 Annual Performance Report, reporting that it achieved the strategic objectives outlined in its 2023-25 Strategic Plan, which focused on workplace safety, return-to-work supports and strengthening partnerships across the province.
According to the report, the province’s lost-time injury rate remained at an all-time low of 1.2 injuries per 100 workers in 2025. The number of new injury claims also fell to a record low of just over 3,800 claims.
WorkplaceNL said approximately 93 per cent of employers reported no workplace injuries during the year.
Financially, the organization reported the Injury Fund remained fully funded at 139.5 per cent as of Dec. 31, 2025, an increase from 131.6 per cent the previous year. WorkplaceNL attributed the improvement largely to positive investment returns.
The average employer assessment rate remained unchanged at $1.73 per $100 of payroll in 2025. The rate includes a discount designed to reduce the Injury Fund surplus over a 15-year period. WorkplaceNL confirmed the discounted average assessment rate will remain at the same level in 2026.
