Woman Killed in Moose Collision on Trans-Canada Highway Near Chapel Arm

A 53-year-old woman has died following a collision with a moose on the Trans-Canada Highway near Chapel Arm early Monday morning.

According to the RCMP, officers with Placentia-Whitbourne Detachment responded to the crash just before 2:45 a.m. on July 27. The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a moose.

Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services also attended the scene, where the woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead.

An RCMP Traffic Services collision reconstructionist was called in to assist with the investigation. The Trans-Canada Highway west of the Chapel Arm exit was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged as the investigation continues.
