Winter Storm Hits Parts of the Province #nlwx


The latest winter storm to hit parts of Newfoundland is beginning to wind down. The Avalon is clearing out.


The storm dumped almost 30 centimetres of snow in the Metro area.


As a result, schools are closed for the morning at least. Several businesses have a delayed opening. Provincial Government offices in the St. John’s metro region will have a delayed opening this morning. Offices will open at 11:00 a.m.


Metrobus is operating on all routes but expect delays due to weather and road conditions.


The storm continues along north facing shores of Newfoundland and on the Northern Peninsula. Conditions in central Newfoundland will improve this afternoon. On the Northern Peninsula snow and blowing snow will continue until Saturday morning with another 15 to 25 cm possible.


In Labrador, 25 to 50 cm of snow is possible through Saturday, with additional amounts expected into Sunday. Winds will be gusty also with gusts to 70 km/h. Locations impacted include southeastern Labrador from Lodge Bay to Rigolet.
