Winter storm hits eastern Newfoundland


A winter storm is impacting eastern Newfoundland this morning. There are winter storm warnings in effect for the Avalon Peninsula North, Bonavista Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, Clarenville and vicinity, Connaigre, St. John's and vicinity, and Terra Nova.


Special weather statements are in effect for the Avalon Peninsula Southeast and Avalon Peninsula Southwest.


Snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are expected through today, tonight, and Tuesday. Overnight winds will increase with gusts to 70 km/h expected.


Snowfall amounts will be less on the southern Avalon, snow will change to ice pellets this afternoon before changing back to snow tonight.


There are several school closures today.

  • Carbonear 25-30 cm

  • Trepassey 15-25 cm

  • Placentia 25-30 cm

  • Marystown 20-25 cm

  • Clarenville 20-25 cm
