WestJet flight attendant strike looms

WestJet is offering passengers greater flexibility to change their travel plans as negotiations with its cabin crew continue and the possibility of a labour disruption remains.

The airline said a 72-hour strike notice has been issued as part of ongoing contract negotiations, which could affect flights beginning Aug. 2. The notice does not mean a work stoppage will necessarily occur.

Travellers booked on WestJet flights between July 30 and Aug. 4 are eligible to make a one-time flight change or cancel their booking without paying additional fees.

As a precaution, the airline said it has begun preparing for the possibility of service disruptions. Those measures include planning for a reduced flight schedule and proactively managing flight changes and cancellations so affected passengers can be notified in advance.
