The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands provided an update on the wildfire situation in Labrador.

Yesterday was a successful wildfire suppression day due to favourable weather conditions in Labrador. Persisting conditions are expected to support today’s wildfire fighting efforts.

The wildfires in Labrador are still active, and top priority areas remain Walsh’s River, Esker Road, Cartwright Junction, DeMille Lake and Blueberry Hill due to their proximity to communities and infrastructure. Crews will be on the ground in these locations today with aerial support from water bombers, a bird dog and bucketing helicopters.

Over the next few days, additional ground crew personnel will be in Labrador to provide assistance where needed, including wildfire fighters from Nova Scotia.

Yesterday, Labrador City lifted evacuation orders for Duley Lake, Tamarack Golf Course and Throne Lake. These areas remain under an evacuation alert. The evacuation order remains in place for Walsh River residents and cabin owners.
