On Sunday morning RCMP officers on patrol observed three ATVs driving on the roadway in Witless Bay.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the three ATVs fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers did not pursue the vehicles in the interest of public safety.

Additional officers parked and waited for the ATVs at the intersection of Witless Bay Line and Route 10. Two of the three ATVs came upon the intersection, failed to stop at the stop sign and further fled from police but were later located on Dean's Road.

The two operators were arrested for flight from police and were taken into custody. They were later released and are set to appear in court at a later date. They were also issued tickets for violations of the Off-Road Vehicles Act. The ATVs were seized and impounded.

The third ATV operator was not located.
