Twillingate RCMP investigating report of possible vehicle underwater

The RCMP is working to determine if a vehicle entered the water near the New World Island causeway.

At this time, investigators have not confirmed that a vehicle entered the water.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning, police received a report from a construction worker who spotted possible vehicle debris on the roadway near the causeway and was concerned about the possibility of a vehicle in the water.

The Twillingate Fire Department, Summerford Fire Rescue, NL Emergency Health Services and a vessel with the Canadian Coast Guard are also on scene.

The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the community as the investigation continues.
