Treacherous travel conditions as storm ravages eastern Newfoundland

Roads across the Avalon Peninsula are treacherous this evening and travel is not recommended. The Trans-Canada Highway to Witless Bay is closed and due to zero visibility and high winds, snow-clearing equipment has been removed from some provincial roadways on the Avalon.

About 50 cm of snow has fallen in the St. John's metro area. The snow is not over yet.

Tonight, snow will continue across the Avalon with 20 to 30 cm expected over the northern Avalon Peninsula and 10 to 20 cm across the southern Avalon.

The Connaigre Clarenville, Terra Nova, and the Bonavista Peninsula will see another 5 to 10 cm.
