Sunday Drive to Flower's Cove

Flower's Cove, located on the Great Northern Peninsula is about a three-and-a-half-hour drive north from Deer Lake.

The town is home to the Flower's Cove Lighthouse, White Rock Walking Trail, Bakers Brook Falls and more. It also happens to be home to Thrombolites, or living rocks.

Thrombolites are critically endangered microbial structures and represent the earliest form of life on Earth. These structures are rare, the only other known place where they grow is in western Australia.

Most of the thrombolites in Flower's Cove have a circular centre surrounded by sections that look like slices of pie. Some are in rough shape but most are still intact.

Sunday Drive is a weekly feature that focuses on small to medium communities in Newfoundland and Labrador.
