Studded Tires Permitted in Newfoundland and Labrador Starting November 1

Motorists in Newfoundland and Labrador can begin using studded tires on Sunday, November 1.
The provincial government is encouraging drivers to prepare their vehicles for winter and use caution as weather conditions change.
Motorists are advised to slow down on slippery roads, adjust their driving to conditions and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Drivers should also monitor travel advisories and carry a winter emergency kit.
The government recommends ensuring tires are in good condition, checking fluid levels regularly and confirming that brakes, windshield wipers and lights are working properly.
Drivers should also remove snow and ice from their vehicles' roofs, hoods, windows and lights before travelling.
Motorists are reminded to maintain a distance of at least 50 metres behind snowplows.
