A $5.3-million contract has been awarded to replace the North Arm River Bridge on Route 90 near Holyrood after inspections found the existing structure had deteriorated and reached the end of its service life.

The provincial government awarded the contract to Trident Construction Limited. The project includes construction of the replacement bridge, roadway improvements and demolition of the existing structure.

A temporary bridge diversion will also be installed to maintain traffic access during construction, helping limit disruptions for motorists, businesses and local communities.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure identified the bridge as requiring replacement through routine inspections.

The government says the work will improve the safety and reliability of Route 90, which serves residents, commercial traffic and emergency services.

The project was included in the 2026-27 Provincial Roads Plan and aligns with the government's commitment to improving road safety and maintaining transportation infrastructure across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Once completed, the new bridge is expected to meet current engineering standards and provide a long-term replacement for the deteriorated structure.

The government has not provided a construction timeline or anticipated completion date in its announcement.
