Strong International Interest Shown in Proposed Bull Arm Floating Dry Dock Project

The Oil and Gas Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador (OilCo) says it has received a strong response from industry following a request for expressions of interest related to a proposed floating dry dock at the Bull Arm Fabrication Site.

According to OilCo, 19 submissions were received from companies in four countries as part of an early-stage engineering study, known as a Pre-Front End Engineering Design, that will help evaluate the design and construction of the facility.

More than half of the submissions came from companies with offices or operations in Newfoundland and Labrador, a result OilCo says demonstrates significant local industry interest and capacity.

The corporation said information collected through the process will be used to help define the project's scope, shape procurement plans and support future development decisions.

Located in Trinity Bay, the Bull Arm Fabrication Site is one of Atlantic Canada's largest industrial fabrication facilities. The site features deepwater access and extensive industrial infrastructure and has played a key role in supporting major energy and construction projects over the years.

OilCo said the addition of a floating dry dock would expand the site's capabilities and support a range of marine-related industries, including ship repair and maintenance, marine construction, offshore support services, defence-related work and decommissioning projects.

The corporation described the proposal as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening Newfoundland and Labrador's industrial sector and enhancing the province's position as a hub for marine, offshore and defence-related opportunities in Canada and North America.
