Stormy Wednesday Anticipated #nlwx

After a quiet weather pattern, a system has its sights set on the province.

Newfoundland

On Wednesday night snow will spread across most of Newfoundland before changing to ice pellets, freezing rain, and rain over the course of the day on Wednesday. There will be strong winds. Conditions improve on Wednesday night.


Snowfall amounts will vary widely across Newfoundland with only about 2 cm expected on the south coast and the Avalon to 20 to 30 cm over the Great Northern Peninsula and between 5 and 15 cm elsewhere. Winds are expected to gust to 110 km/h over most coastal areas and 130 to 160 km/h in the Wreckhouse area and along parts of the west coast.

Labrador

In Labrador snow is expected on Wednesday afternoon combined with gusty winds.


Conditions improve on Thursday.


Significant impacts to travel is possible. Marine Atlantic is anticipating a potential impact to the following departures:
