Stormy Wednesday ahead


An area of low pressure will impact Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday.


Very heavy rain is expected tonight and Wednesday in southwestern Newfoundland. Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are expected, except 50 to 70 mm inland and over higher terrain. Areas inland over the west coast and on the Northern Peninsula will see rain change to freezing rain at times.


Western Newfoundland will experience very strong winds tonight through Wednesday morning. Most areas will see gusts between 90 and 130 km/h. In the Wreckhouse area, gusts to 140 km/h are expected.


Power outages and flooding are possible.



Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected for Labrador City and Wabush, elsewhere 5 to 15 cm are expected tonight and Wednesday morning.


Marine Atlantic is anticipating impacts to crossings scheduled for this evening.
