Stormy Weather on the Way


Winter isn't done with Newfoundland and Labrador just yet, it is only May after all...

An area of low pressure will move across the province beginning overnight tonight and will bring rain, snow, freezing rain, and ice pellets to the province.​

As a result, there are special weather statements in effect for:​ Cartwright to Black Tickle​ Eagle River​ Green Bay - White Bay​ Hopedale and vicinity​ Norman Bay to Lodge Bay​ Northern Peninsula East​ Port Saunders and the Straits​ Postville - Makkovik​ Red Bay to L'Anse-au-Clair​ Rigolet and vicinity and​ Upper Lake Melville​ Rain or freezing rain will begin around 3:00 am this morning in southern Newfoundland, from there, the rain will spread across the eastern half of the Island, and snow will be the dominate type of precipitation in western Newfoundland.​

Snow is expected across most of Labrador.​

Heavy snow is expected on the Great Northern Peninsula and in southeastern Labrador. Between Tuesday and Tuesday night areas on the Great Northern Peninsula could receive 20 centimeters of snow.​

In Labrador snowfall amounts of 30 centimeters are possible.
