Stormy Monday for Newfoundland and Labrador #nlwx

It will be a stormy start to the week across the province. We are expecting rain, snow, and strong wind.

For the Island portion of the province, the rain will move in today. The rain will begin this morning on the west coast and will reach the east coast later this afternoon. Rainfall amounts of 5 to 15 millimetres are generally expected, except for the south coast where up to 50 millimetres is expected.

Winds will also be an issue. Along coastal sections, gusts between 100 and 130 km/h are possible. Inland gusts between 70 and 100 km/h are expected. In some areas, power outages are possible due to strong winds.

Snow is expected for the northern coast of Labrador and in the Churchill Falls area where 20 to 40 centimetres of snow is possible combined with wind gusts up to 70 km/h. The snow and strong winds may cause whiteout conditions at times.
