Storm Rages on in Western Newfoundland and Parts of Labrador

A winter storm continues to pound western Newfoundland and parts of eastern Labrador.

This morning schools in western Newfoundland are once again closed for the morning with some closed all day. Provincial Government offices in Corner Brook are also closed for the morning. Grenfell Campus and CNA in Corner Brook are closed for this morning. Online exams will go ahead. Academy Canada is also closed for the morning.

Motorists are advised to stay off many roads in western Newfoundland and in parts of Labrador. The MV Veteran and MV Grace Sparkes not running due to strong winds. Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings for this morning and advises that crossings for tonight could be impacted.

Wind warnings, snowfall warnings, winter storm warnings, snow squall watches, and special weather statements are in effect for parts of the province.

Winds will begin to subside this morning or early this afternoon. On the west coast, another 5 to 10 cm with local amounts of 15 cm is expected along the west coast. Another 25 to 40 cm is expected for parts of coastal Labrador.

This low has already brought snow and rain to much of Newfoundland, followed by a period of very strong winds.
