The City of St. John’s has moved the date of its municipal election from October 2 to October 8 to allow more time to secure resources for in-person voting and to launch a new online tool that lets residents check whether their mailed-in ballots have been received.

The Ballot Status Look-Up portal is now live, giving voters an opportunity to confirm if their vote-by-mail kit has been processed by the City.

For residents whose ballots have not been received or who have not yet voted, there are several options to ensure participation in the 2025 Municipal Election.

Voting on Election Day

Eligible voters may cast their ballots in person or drop off completed vote-by-mail kits on October 8 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Voters registering in person on Election Day must attend the voting centre in their ward and bring acceptable identification.

Voting centre locations are as follows (note the change for Ward 2):

  • Ward 1: Paul Reynolds Community Centre – 35 Carrick Drive

  • Ward 2: Centre for Performance and Creativity (Former Cochrane United Church) – 42 Bannerman Street

  • Ward 3: H.G.R. Mews Community Centre – 60 Blackler Avenue

  • Ward 4: Kenmount Terrace Community Centre – 85 Messenger Drive

  • Ward 5: Shea Heights Community Centre – 130 Linegar Avenue

  • Ward 5: Goulds Recreation Centre – 509 Main Road

Replacement Ballots

Residents who discover through the portal that their ballots were not received can request a new voting kit up to October 7. Replacement requests can be made by visiting the Access Centre at City Hall (10 New Gower Street), calling 311 or 709-754-CITY, and must be picked up at City Hall once prepared. Identification is required.

Returning Completed Kits

Completed vote-by-mail kits can be returned to secure drop boxes until 8 p.m. on Election Day. A 24/7 drop box is located outside City Hall, with additional boxes available inside recreation facilities, including Paul Reynolds, H.G.R. Mews, Kenmount Terrace, Shea Heights, Goulds, and Southlands community centres.

The City noted that Southlands Community Centre will now also be available as a drop-off location on Election Day, providing an additional option for voters.
