St. John’s Firefighters to Host Annual September 11 Stair Climb in Memory of Fallen First Responders

The St. John’s Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1075, will host its annual September 11 Stair Climb on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, to honour those who lost their lives in the line of duty during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

The event will mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks and will bring together firefighters, first responders, families, invited guests and members of the public for a memorial climb in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who died while serving others, as well as all those impacted by the tragedy.

Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 floors, representing the height of the World Trade Center towers. Organizers said the event is not a race or competition, but a tribute focused on remembrance, respect and service.

This year’s climb will also hold special significance for Local 1075, with funds raised supporting the children of local firefighters who died as a result of occupational cancer, as well as the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The event will take place at the Mary Brown’s Centre stairs, beginning at 9 a.m.
