The City of St. John’s says all municipal facilities will close Monday as crews continue clearing snow after five days of heavy accumulation and ongoing poor weather.

City officials said Sunday that offices, including City Hall, and recreation facilities will be closed on Feb. 23. Employees will work from home where possible.

Residents are being urged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary to allow snow clearing equipment to operate safely and efficiently.

The city said it has been working with neighbouring municipalities, the provincial government, Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic to coordinate decisions aimed at limiting traffic and supporting cleanup efforts.

A weather-related parking ban remains in effect. On-street parking is prohibited on streets outside the downtown area until further notice. Vehicles parked on affected streets may be ticketed or towed.

Curbside waste collection scheduled for Monday has also been cancelled. The city said an updated collection schedule will be provided at a later time.

Officials said they are not declaring a state of emergency at this time. While road conditions remain challenging, the city said the current measures are expected to provide the conditions needed to support efficient snow clearing operations.

The city said it will continue to monitor conditions and may implement additional measures if necessary.
