Snow expected for eastern Newfoundland on Tuesday


An area of low pressure will approach eastern Newfoundland from the south on Tuesday. The low will bring snow to the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, Bonavista Peninsula, and Clarenville.


There are snowfall warnings in effect for St. John's and vicinity and a winter storm warning for the Avalon Peninsula Southeast.


The Avalon Peninsula North and Avalon Peninsula Southwest is under a special weather statement.


Snowfall amounts will range from 5 to 10 cm on the Baccalieu Trail and southwestern Avalon to 10 to 15 cm for the St. John's area. The heaviest snow is expected on the southeastern Avalon where amounts between 15 and 25 cm are anticipated.


Only trace amounts of snow are expected for the Burin Peninsula, Bonavista Peninsula, and Clarenville.


Winds will gust between 60 and 70 km/h across the Avalon Peninsula.
