One person was taken to hospital following a single-vehicle role-over collision on the Trans Canada Highway near Soldiers Pond on Saturday.

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, along with RCMP officers from Avalon East District and NLHS paramedics, responded to the collision just before 12:00 p.m.

Crews arrived to find a pickup truck in the ditch that had reportedly rolled over hitting a pole for the new moose fencing, causing the bed cap of the truck to become dislodged from the truck. The truck then landed back on its wheels and came to a rest.

Firefighters and paramedics put the person in a stokes where they then utilized a lander and rope to get the patient up over a rocky bank where they were placed aboard a nearby ambulance and taken to hospital with unknown injuries. The other person who was in the vehicle at the time is believed to be uninjured.

Traffic travelling eastbound near Soldiers Pond was down to one lane as emergency personnel attended the scene.
