RNC provides Halloween safety tips

Today is Halloween, and as children across the province prepare for an evening of costumes, candy and celebration, the RNC has provided some safety tips.
Trick-or-Treaters should wear bright, reflective clothing or add reflective tape to costumes; carrying a flashlight is also a good idea. Use sidewalks and crosswalks, travel in groups, plan your route and stick together. You should only go to homes that are well-lit and never enter a house or vehicle of someone unknown to you. Also, check your treats before you eat.
Police are reminding homeowners to keep walkways clear, well-lit and free of hazards and to use LED candles or flashlights in jack-o’-lanterns. It is also a good idea to secure pets to avoid frightful encounters and only distribute individually wrapped, store-bought candy.
Motorists are asked to slow down and exercise extra caution, especially in residential areas. There will be an increase in pedestrian traffic. Avoid distractions and never drive impaired.
