Shoplifters arrested after assaulting off-duty RCMP officer

RCMP arrested two women in Bay Roberts after one of the women assaulted a store clerk and two of the women assaulted an off-duty RCMP officer.

The incident occurred on Saturday.

An off-duty officer was in a store when he observed an employee asking two patrons to leave the establishment. Both women became angry and aggressive and one woman assaulted the employee of the store.

The officer then intervened and identified himself as a police officer.

The two women continued with their aggressive behaviour and then assaulted the officer.

Then both women fled the scene. They were located a short time later and arrested. Both face charges of assaulting a police officer and one of the women faces an additional charge of assault.
