RNC Upgrade Charges; Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision Now Fatal

A St. John's man is facing upgraded charges after a six-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a vehicle-pedestrian collision last week.

The collision happened on July 23 at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Larkhall Street in St. John's. Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary's Operational Patrol Services and Accident Investigation responded to the scene, where a child had been struck by a vehicle.

Police say the six-year-old victim has since died from his injuries.

Following the child's death, investigators upgraded the charges against Tyler Day of St. John's on July 29. He is now charged with impaired driving causing death, failure to remain at the scene of an accident causing death, operating a vehicle over the legal alcohol limit causing death, dangerous operation causing death, and criminal negligence causing death.

Day was initially charged in connection with the ongoing investigation at the time of the collision. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
