The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding motorists to slow down and drive cautiously in construction zones after officers observed multiple traffic violations in the Corner Brook area.
The RNC said it has increased patrols in a construction zone on the Trans-Canada Highway between Corner Brook and Humber Valley Resort. Officers have issued multiple tickets to drivers for speeding and passing in a no-passing zone.
Police said traffic enforcement efforts will continue throughout the construction season.
The force noted that fines for traffic offences are doubled in construction zones, with penalties ranging from $130 to $1,170 depending on the violation.
Police emphasized that construction zones are active workplaces where the safety of workers, including heavy equipment operators, contractors and flag persons, depends on motorists following posted regulations and adjusting their driving behaviour.
The RNC urged drivers to reduce their speed, remain patient and exercise caution from the moment they encounter construction zone signage.
Anyone who witnesses unsafe driving behaviour is encouraged to report it to police by calling 911.
