The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has charged a man for intentionally setting a series of fires in St. John’s.

The RNC responded to several suspicious fires targeting pole lines and communications towers in the St. John’s region from July 18-21.

On July 18 at approximately 11 a.m., officers responded to a fire involving a utility pole on Linegar Avenue. Around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to another fire inside a secured area of a communications tower in Shea Heights. Both incidents resulted in significant property damage.

Patrick Greer, 30, was previously charged with arson in connection with two fires that occurred on July 20. Yesterday (July 28), he was charged with two additional counts of arson for the July 18 fires, mischief over $5000, mischief under $5000, and three counts of break and enter.

He will appear in court today.

The investigation into other related fires targeting pole lines and communications towers is ongoing.
