A home in Mount Pearl sustained damage from a fire on Tuesday night, displacing two residents.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the residence on Park Avenue near Winston Avenue shortly before 7:00 p.m. after reports of smoke emanating from the property. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke billwing from all sides of the house. Crews quickly deployed attack lines and established a supply line to combat the blaze in the structure.
Firefighters battled the flames for approximately 40 minutes, followed by another hour and a half to ensure all hotspots were extinguished. While two individuals managed to escape the home, a neighbor reported that one person was taken to the hospital, although this has yet to be confirmed by officials.
Park Avenue between Penmore Drive and Winston Avenue was closed for about two hours, with a detour in place. The road reopened around 9:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation..
