RCMP Investigating Fatal Crash Near Bell Island Airstrip

A 58-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Bell Island.
Bell Island RCMP say officers responded to a report of the crash near the island's airstrip at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The man was found deceased near the vehicle.
Police, along with RCMP Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services, remained at the scene throughout Wednesday afternoon as the investigation continued, prompting a public advisory asking residents to avoid the area.
Investigators say the death is not considered suspicious. However, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
RCMP are asking anyone who may have information, or surveillance or dash camera footage that could help determine what happened, to contact Bell Island RCMP at 709-488-3312.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged, and no additional details are being released out of respect for the privacy of the deceased and his family.
