Rain and colder temperatures on the way

A cold front associated with an area of low pressure will push across the province tonight bringing cooler temperatures and much-needed rain to most of the island portion of the province.

High temperatures on Tuesday will only reach the mid-teens for most areas. Temperatures will rebound slightly on Thursday with highs near 20 and will increase once again into the high 20s by this weekend.

The heaviest rain will fall across the Burin and Avalon Peninsula. In these areas, we could see 20 to 40 mm of rain. The remainder of the south coast will see about 20 mm. Where the fires are burning in central Newfoundland, rainfall of 5 to 10 mm is expected. Similar amounts are expected on the west coast.

There has been such little rainfall that this rain will do little to alleviate the forest fires.
