Provincial government invests $100,000 in Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association

The provincial government is providing $100,000 in operational funding to the Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association.

Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation Minister Andrea Barbour announced the investment, saying the funding will support efforts to promote the province’s hunting and angling sector.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association is a non-profit organization representing hunting and fishing outfitters across the province.

The organization works to support the outfitting industry through industry engagement, market development, visitor marketing and other initiatives aimed at increasing the sector’s contribution to tourism and rural economic development.

The province said the investment will help strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador’s position as a hunting and angling destination, while supporting outfitting businesses and attracting visitors to rural communities.

“The outfitting sector is a cornerstone of the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, particularly in the summer and fall seasons,” Barbour said.

She said promoting the province’s hunting and angling experiences to domestic and international markets could help attract new clients, expand into emerging markets and increase visitation.

NLOA president Brad LeDrew said the funding will help the organization promote the province to high-value hunting and angling markets and create new opportunities for outfitters and rural communities.

“Our members deliver world-class experiences to visitors from around the world,” LeDrew said, adding that continued collaboration between industry and government can help grow the sector and strengthen the province’s reputation as a premier hunting and angling destination.
