The provincial government says more than $250 million will be spent on highway construction projects during the 2026–27 construction season as part of its annual Roads Plan, less than what was promised by the previous government.
The plan highlights major construction projects scheduled for the upcoming season and provides a partial list of projects planned for 2027–28. Work will include upgrades to key highways, regional routes and provincially owned local roads.
By concentrating work in fewer locations, the province says contractors will spend less time moving equipment between sites, which can reduce costs and allow work to proceed more efficiently, particularly when setting up operations at quarries and asphalt plants.
The province also said it received more than 500 public suggestions for road improvements. Those submissions were reviewed alongside technical assessments completed by government engineers when developing the plan.
Officials say collaboration between government and the construction industry will help ensure projects are completed at a reasonable cost while maintaining quality standards.
