Province increases fertility subsidy to $29,000

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is increasing financial support for people seeking fertility treatment.

The province announced Friday that the maximum one-time Fertility Subsidy Program payment will rise to $29,000, up from $20,000.

The increase is being supported by an additional $1.8 million included in Budget 2026, bringing the program's total budget to $5.8 million.

The government says the higher subsidy is intended to help reduce the financial burden associated with in vitro fertilization, or IVF, and improve access to fertility care.

“Cost can be a significant barrier,” Health and Community Services Minister Lela Evans said in a statement. “This increased subsidy will help more people access fertility treatment.”

The province says work is continuing to explore opportunities to establish IVF services in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services currently provides several fertility-related services.
